After another grueling ten hours spent waiting to leave Amsterdam and then finally getting up in the air, we made it to Athens! It was not what I really expected, though I didn't know what to really expect because I only know the art, not what the climate is like or the city itself. It's huge. It makes Minneapolis look tiny with how much it sprawls across the country side.
Also it wasn't as green as I expected. Most of their trees are midgets compared to what I'm used to. First thing we do after driving into the city is drop our bags off at our hotel and then we have an hour to clean all the plane grim off before we have "fun activities" to do.
Turns out that its a scavenger hunt around the acropolis ruins where we have to take a picture next to several different landmarks. Using only a map and a few helpful strangers, my partner, Katie, and I manage to pull in first place which means that we get to have a $50 dollar lunch in Santorini with our professors. Our group met back up after the hunt outside of the entrance to the acropolis, as beautiful as it look during the day, it looks just as wonderful at night!
Several people got quite lost in the surrounding area, either by taking public transport to the wrong place it going down the wrong street. They're very confusing, especially when everything is in Greek. We then had our first feast, which was absolutely delicious. It was very weird to be drinking wine with my professors at the same table, but a lot of fun none the less. Even the Jacuzzi at our hotel had a view of the ruins, though you had to pay money to use it so I just took a picture instead. Tomorrow, we actually go explore acropolis!
Have been liking your trip already. Brings back memories of my time in Athens. Love the pictures. Good for you and the other classmate for getting first place. Will be a wonderful meal!!!
